Every so often, the staff of Sunrise Pine School likes to spotlight one of our incredible students. This month, we’re featuring Bence Balogh, a talented 5th-grade soccer player who not only shines on the field, but also in the virtual classroom. Our conversation with Bence reveals his dedication to soccer, his love for learning, and how he manages to balance both.
Here are some snippets from our conversation with Bence:
Sunrise Pine: Hey Bence! To start off, how long have you been playing soccer, and what position do you play?
Bence: Hi! I’ve been playing soccer for 4 years now. I’m a midfielder, and I love creating opportunities for my team to score.
Sunrise Pine: Wow, that’s impressive! How do you manage your time between school and soccer?
Bence: I have a strict schedule. After my online classes, I dedicate my time to soccer practice and homework. Weekends are for games and extra practice.
Sunrise Pine: Being in an online school, do you find it easier to pursue your passion for soccer?
Bence: Absolutely! The flexible schedule helps me to attend my soccer practices without missing out on my lessons.
Sunrise Pine: That’s fantastic. Now, what subjects do you enjoy the most?
Bence: I really enjoy Math and Physical Education. They both kind of relate to soccer in a way, so I find them really interesting.
Sunrise Pine: Great connection! Tell us about a memorable experience you had with your soccer team.
Bence: Last year, we won a regional tournament, and it was awesome!
Sunrise Pine: That must have been thrilling! How has playing soccer taught you about teamwork and discipline?
Bence: Soccer has taught me a lot about working together and trusting others. Discipline comes from the strict practice schedule and the commitment I have.
Sunrise Pine: Certainly, life lessons on the field! How do your teammates and coaches support you in your academic pursuits?
Bence: They always remind me that education is important. My coaches make sure our team is not missing out on our education even with a lot of matches and practices we have.
Sunrise Pine: That’s a solid support system. Outside of soccer, do you have any other hobbies?
Bence: Yes, I like reading and playing video games. I also enjoy spending time with my family and exploring nature.
Sunrise Pine: Sounds like a good balance. Looking ahead, do you see yourself pursuing soccer professionally?
Bence: I hope so! But I also know education is important. I am considering a career as player or a coach.
Sunrise Pine: That’s a wise outlook. Lastly, do you have any advice for other student-athletes?
Bence: Definitely. Always maintain a schedule and stick to it. I really think it’s possible to excel in both school and your sport with good time management and support from family and school.
